Since 31 January 2020, the UK is no longer a part of the EU. A transition period currently applies which will end at 11pm on 31 December 2020. From 1 January 2021, there will be changes to your consumer rights as a result of Brexit.

 

It is important to be aware that even though the EU and UK have agreed a trade deal, changes to consumer rights will still take place from 1 January 2021. Online shopping packages received from the UK (excluding Northern Ireland) will still be subject to Value Added Tax (VAT) and other charges.

 

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission have created a checklist of some of the things to bear in mind when shopping online from a non-Eu based business, which now includes the UK.
